It's About Time!

Telling time, that is !

In the new Common Core Standards, there is nothing for time in 4th grade
BUT,
we still test it, and some of the kids still need LOTS of practice.
So, we are spending a couple of days reviewing telling time to the minute and elapsed time.
I started out with this cute freebie that I got from Alison over at Teaching Maths With Meaning.

You can grab a copy here.
Each student made and labeled their own clock to use for practice.

Next we worked on my High Flying Time Activities

You can get it here.

We started out by practicing reading and showing time on our own clocks.

I showed the slides from the file.
The kids showed that time on their individual clocks.
Then they wrote the time on individual white boards.

Finally, they had an independent practice page (from the High Flying Time file.)
They did a great job!

Tomorrow we will play the High Flying Time Memory Game (included in the file)

and start working on Elapsed Time.
I have a fun activity for that too!

What are you working on this week?

  1. Your activities look awesome! We will be covering elapsed time next week. It is such a struggle for my kiddos to really master.

  2. Great Post about teaching time. I teach my Thirders this task early in the year but we go back again at the end of the year and they totally get it. I am going to grab this and am now your newest follower!
