An Ooey Gooey Problem Solved!

I have had a BIG, ooey gooey problem in my classroom!
GLUE!
My fourth graders CANNOT seem to grasp
DOT - DOT - NOT A LOT!
They were really making a mess with the glue.
So I had to nix it.
No more glue.
Only glue sticks.
Problem is,
I hate them!
They don't stay stuck,
and I end up with little pieces everywhere
that should be stuck to something!

So after being frustrated with the mess and then with stuff not sticking,
I stumbled across these little gems...
They dispense the glue one drop at a time!
Don't know how I missed them before,
but boy am I glad I found them!
Cheapest place I found them was Discount School Supply.

Glow and Grow Tuesday - A New Weekly Linky

Based on an idea that I got from Jen Runde over at Runde's Room
I  started having my kiddos reflect on the work in their weekly folders
using a Glow and Grow strategy.
You can read Jen's post about the strategy  here.

Using her idea, I made this form for the kids to use to assess their weekly work.
You can click on the image to download a Word document that you can use too.

It got me thinking that, as teachers, we should do the same thing.
And so, Glow and Grow Tuesdays was born.

Each week, think about one or two things that went really well for you.
It could be a lesson that went really well, a great idea you had, any positives from your week.
Then think about one thing you did that you think you could improve, or grow.
Come link up and share your GLOWS and GROWS with the rest of us!
We'll help celebrate the Glows, and maybe offer suggestions for your Grows.

Hopefully we can plant some new ideas and watch them grow too!

Remember the rule of three.
Check out the two entries before you, and one after,
and let's share some celebration and encouragement!

Grab the button above, and link up below!

Let's get this party started!

I am finally getting my groove back and getting some creating done!
My kiddos really enjoyed the math presentations
I made last week!

Must get better at lesson planning!
The ideas are all running around in my head,
but I REALLY need to sit down and get myself more organized.

Now, it's your turn!

A Busy, Busy Monday!

After a long dry spell it seems,
I have been really busy lately putting the finishing touches on some new products!

In math, we have been working on double-digit multiplication,
along with factors and multiples.
I mad these two presentations for my kiddos and they loved them!

My kids really love it when they get to write on their desks!
Both of these allow the kids to work right along with the slides on their desks.

The penguin "Happy Dance" in this one was a HUGE hit!

... and finally,
after the long awaited release of my buddy Michelle's Scrappy States,
I was able to finish up this one!

I am so happy with the way they turned out, and hope you enjoy them too!

If you missed this goody the other day,

Head on over to my FB Fan Page
(under the Fan Freebies tab) and grab it up too!

We have been so busy diving into the Common Core that I have not been able to do as much with my monster unit as I would like, but we are getting to a few things.
One of my favorite things to do this time of year is to have the kids work on reading fluency with this awesome Halloween theme book.

I print of copies and divide the kids into partners and have then practice reading with each other.  Then the partners get to perform their poem for the class.
It's definitely a favorite!

There is a whole series of these books, and I have most of them!

Do you use Mentor Sentences with your class?
I have been using the ones I got from the very talented Ideas by Jivey.
I also use her...

This week we are working on

My kiddos are still struggling with identifying simple and complete subject and predicates, so I made up a quick practice sheet using sentences from the book.
I left the file at work, but stop by tomorrow and grab this little freebie too.
Here you go!
Click on the image to grab it.

You can also grab these cute little monster not cards from my fan page.
I made them for conference confirmations, but you could use them for anything!

Check out here for more monster ideas!

Character Book Reports

Our first book report project for this year was a Character Book Report.
I got this from Heidi at Unique Teaching Resources.
I have used these in the past and the kids have had fun with them.
It is a really easy format for a first-time book report project.
(Heidi has several different themed book reports available.)

Here are some of the "Characters" my kiddos came up with this year...

Next up is the Book Buffet from The Peanut Gallery
You can read about last year's projects here.

Arizona Animals Poster Project

My kids are loving the poster projects we have been doing,
and they keep getting better with each one!
Our latest one was a culminating project for our Arizona vertebrates and invertebrates unit.

The file contains the directions for completion, an extensive rubric for grading that includes criteria for science content, language standards, and appearance.
The kids did an AWESOME job!
