I ♥ teaching my kiddos to be thoughtful, respectful, responsible citizens!
January is one of my favorite months for this.
I adore teaching about Martin Luther King and the Civil Rights Movement.
Some of my favorite resources for this include:

This one is in our reading series.

My kids love this video!
These are also great videos!
Last year we made this really amazing class book.
You can read more about it here.

Here's a YouTube video that I use with my class.

You can also follow my MLK Pinterest board for more ideas.

Dots and Boxes - A Strategy Game for Centers or Fast Finishers

Did you as a child, or do your kids play that silly game with the dots and boxes?
Mine played it all the time and l♥ved it!
I decided to create a fun and challenging version for my classroom.
Instead of just the plain old dots and boxes,
I have added some images within the grid.
Completed boxes that contain images are worth more points.
There are colored versions that can be laminated
and put in centers to be used with vis-a-vis or wipe-off markers
and black and white version that can be copied and left for fast finishers.
I have also included two difficulty levels,
a larger sized grid with fewer spaces for younger students
(or smaller amounts of time,)
and a smaller sized grid with more spaces for older students.

I can't wait to get these copied and laminated to use with my students next week!
Hopefully it will be an incentive to get them focused on getting work done!

Writing Resolutions (Revisited)

I am so sad that my break is just about over!
I sure will miss having the time to blog stalk and browse Pinterest.
Last year I got this great idea from Joann over at Fifth is Fabulous!
If you haven't been there yet, go check it out.
She has some awesome ideas!

Anyhoo...
She had her kiddos think about their writing and write some goals for improvement.
♥♥♥LOVED!♥♥♥ the idea.
What a great way to get back into the swing of things next week.
So I am sharing this little freebie again.
